Pastor Paul Lundberg
Series: “Taking
Care of Business”
Part 4: “Whatever
You Do!” (1 Peter 4:7-11) August 10, 2008
LAST WEEK: God
will give me what I need when I give Him what
I have
POINT: God’s
character
is displayed in the
gifts
He provides
1 Peter 4:7-11 The
end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and
self-controlled so that you can pray. Above all, love
each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude
of sins.
Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.
10
Each one should use whatever gift he has received to
serve others,
faithfully administering God's
grace in its various forms. If anyone
speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words
of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the
strength God provides, so that in all things God may be
praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and
the power for ever and ever. Amen.
ME: Great singers
(w/ability) no passion; take the passion every time!
WE: Same tension? I have
no “ability” what can I do?
GOD: SPIRITUAL
GIFT: "A spiritual gift is
an ability given by God and empowered by the Holy Spirit
to perform the specific function within the Body that
God has assigned to each of us." (Eric Muldoon,
Michigan pastor)
Randy Alcorn:
“God offers us His greatest gift: Himself. With Him comes a life full of joy and purpose.”
God’s character

►WHATEVER
YOU DO!
►1.
URGENCY: “End of all things” (telos)
"turning point; hinge;
culminating point at which one stage ends and another
begins" Marriage is a telos -- both an end of one state
of existence and the beginning of another; Death
and resurrection; BORN AGAIN; Second Coming is the
ultimate telos.
Exercise: my/your body,
my/your mind, (most procrastinated:)
we work at our
abilities; seldom gifts
Ultimate procrastinator,
Adult ADD? I can concentrate ONLY under pressure
Nike: “Just do it!”Why does that create a response? Could it be that
everyone needs pushing?
Clear-minded and self-controlled so you can pray:
accident because not paying
attention
►2.
PRIORITY:
Love each other – multitude of sins (mercy, forgiveness,
grace=attributes of God)
Cheerful Hospitality –
why Christians eat at EVERYTHING.
FUN/FELLOWSHIPMATTERS
►4.
STRATEGY:
►Speaking
very words of
God;
►Serving
with the
strength God provides
►FAITHFULLY
ADMINISTERING (STEWARDING) GOD’S GRACE IN ITS VARIOUS
FORMS
►SO
THAT
in all things God may be praised through (how well we reflect)
Jesus Christ!

WHAT IF?
►ABOVE
ALL John
15:12 “my
command is
this…” 17
►“this
is my command…”
love each other!
Vss. 13-16 “
Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his
life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what
I command. I
no longer call you servants, because a servant does not
know his master's business. Instead, I have called you
friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I
have made known to you.
►You
did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to
go and bear fruit
— fruit that will last.
►Then
the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.
►God
will give me what I need!
►BENEDICTION:
“TO HIM BE THE GLORY AND THE
POWER FOREVER. AMEN”
