Part Two: “Does Anybody Really Care (about time)?”

(Genesis 2:2-3; Matthew 11:28-30)

 

A SERIES ON STEWARDSHIP: TIME, TALENT, TREASURE
  1. We’re part of a large “household” (i.e., H of Faith)
  2. We’re “employees”, not owners (what we have is not ours)
  3. We have been placed in a position of trust
  4. Our assignment is “careful and responsible management”
 Gen 2:2-3 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
 Even God wastes time - The first thing God sanctified: Time
4th Commandment (Exodus 20, Deut 5)   Creation vs. deliverance
Deliverance by resurrection (1st day in NT) POINT: One day in 7
 Leonard Sweet: Time is life’s fundamental necessity but has become the ultimate luxury – the most expensive and extravagant thing we have…technology doesn’t so much give us more time as enable us to do more in the time we have.”

Opportunities: Fellowship, evangelism, “Come and see, follow, go”

SABBATICALS = stillness and silence, saying no, prayer and meditation, praise, confession, Bible Study (Yadira’s walking BStudy).

 Matt 11:28-30 - "Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me — watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
