BLINK!
(Luke 24:25-32)
April 15, 2007
Luke 24:25 He
said to them, "How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to
believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Did not the Christ
have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?" 27 And
beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them
what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself. 28 As
they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus
acted as if he were going farther. 29 But they urged him
strongly, "Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is
almost over." So he went in to stay with them. 30 When he was at
the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and
began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were
opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their
sight. 32 They asked each other, "Were not our
hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and
opened the Scriptures to us?"
THE
EXPERIENCE
1. Doing Life together
Secretly (fear
of the Jews, no one to hear them)
What to do –
what to do! (Go home or go back – Emmaus is on the way to the
Galilee)
“This resurrection story: maybe He
will come back AND ESTABLISH THE KINGDOM!”
APPLICATION: Importance of community
Kent and I at Blaney Meadows
2. The presence of Jesus
(unrecognized)
APPLICATION:
Where two
or three are gathered, Christ is there:
often unrecognized but there (Ecc. 4:12: a cord of three
strands…)
IMPORTANCE OF
DISCIPLESHIP RELATIONSHIP AND SMALL GROUPS
“Jesus and others
and you – what a wonderful way to spell joy!”
[a.] He opens the
scriptures to them
- (vs. 27)
“And beginning with Moses and all
the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the
Scriptures concerning himself.”
Gospels, look for
Jesus in the rest
[b.] Opens their eyes (at his
table) in the ordinance of the Lord's supper, (vs.
30)
When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks,
broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then their
eyes were opened and they recognized Him…

“Open the case!”

[c.] Opens their
minds (vs.
45) Then he opened their minds so
they could understand the Scriptures.
“If
he that gives the revelation do not give the understanding, we
are in the dark still.” (MH)
Tim: “Oh, I get
it…inside the pork home run!”
RESULTING IN:
1. “EASTER
EYES”
Eyes opened
(vs. 31) SO THEY COULD RECOGNIZE HIM
Mind opened
(vs. 45) SO THEY COULD UNDERSTAND
Jesus on every page of the
Bible
2.
“HOLY HEARTBURN” HEART BURNING (vs. 32)
They asked each other, "Were not our
hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and
opened the Scriptures to us?"
Light and heat /
Eyes open, hearts warmed /Sight, understanding
1 John 1:1 That which was from the
beginning, which we have HEARD, which we have
SEEN WITH OUR EYES, which we have looked at and our
HANDS HAVE TOUCHED - this we proclaim concerning
the Word of life.
“I know God is
real
today
because Jesus was
real yesterday”

Mom’s insight
(Jesus is alive!)
New ability to
walk (I can walk!)
CONCLUSION:
Because Jesus is alive (EASTER
EYES) people can be healed,
marriages can be restored, kids and parents can be reunited, old
habits can be abandoned, wrongs can be made right, COLD HEARTS
CAN BE FIRED UP (HOLY HEARTBURN)
