HOW(continued)
Good!
Now it’s decision time! Becoming a follower of Jesus is the best
decision you’ll ever make. It’s also the toughest. Jesus made it
clear when He said, “If a man (or woman, boy or girl) would come
after me, let him deny Himself, take up His cross and follow me.”
(Matthew 16:24).
Four things
need to happen and they all involve making a real choice to follow
Jesus:
1)Admit
to God (the bible calls it confess) that you are a “sinner.”
In Romans we read that all have sinned (3:23) and that the
“wages of sin is death.” (6:23). That means you, along with me and
everyone else. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to
forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
(I John 1:9)
2)
Recognize that without Jesus, the Son of the one true and living God,
we are without hope – lost. “There is no other name, given among
men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
3)
Accept the free gift offered by Jesus: “eternal life,” (Romans 6:23),
and “Believing have life in His name.” (John 20:31).
4)
Determine to live differently (the Bible calls it “repent”). Romans
12:1 and 2 puts it like this: “…present your bodies a living
sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God…and be not conformed to this
world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will
be able to test and approve what is God’s will – His good, pleasing,
and perfect will.”
The promise of God - if you will give
Him your life - is found in Romans 8:1: “There is now no
condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ
Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin
and death.”
There’s much
more to tell you but a simple prayer, spoken from your heart to Jesus
affirming your desire to take Him as Savior of your soul and Leader of
your life is the place to start.
Then, make sure you tell someone about
it! “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe
in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it
is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” (Romans 10: 9,
10).

congratulations…welcome to the family of God!!”
“Come to me, all you who are weary
and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and
learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find
rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
(Jesus’ words recorded in Matthew 11: 28-30)
